Fall is finally upon us! After months of dealing with the sweltering heat, the weather has finally cooled down, and a plethora of activities are available for Boston College students to take advantage of the season. With a city as vibrant and fun as Boston at our fingertips, The Gavel has compiled some of the most fun events for you to enjoy!
For All Ages:
A highly anticipated annual event is the Head of The Charles Regatta. If you like crew or watching cool athletic feats, this is a perfect way to spend a weekend. This event brings the world’s best crew teams to the river for an intense two-days of competition, with over 11,000 athletes and tens of thousands of spectators. This year’s competition will take place on October 20-21.
Another anticipated event is the 3rd Annual Harvest Party on October 25 from 7-10 p.m. This event costs $50, with the money going to the Boston Public Market’s Community Engagement Fund, which offers free culinary educational experiences in the local community. Tickets include over 30 vendor food samples, 10 New England brewery/cidery pop-ups (if you are over 21), live music and dancing, auction prizes, and swag bags.
There is an Asian Street Food Night Market on October 27 and 28. Tickets are $7 and include access to over 30 vendors with a variety of different types of Asian food and snacks. There will also be games and live performances. This is at the Shops at Chestnut Hill North Parking Lot and tickets include access for the entire day, from 3-10 p.m. You can also get exclusive deals at the Shops when you show your tickets.
On October 27 and 28, Pumpkin Palooza is taking over Lawn on D. This free event features activities like pumpkin carving and train rides, costume parades, fire/LED dancers, a photo booth, fire dancers, and live performances. Food and drinks are also available for purchase and the Lawn will be heated.
If you want to explore a weird side of Boston, the Dark Side of Boston Tour is the perfect thing for you. The cost is $13 (if you buy tickets online) for a 90 minute tour. They expose you to stories based on true historical events, such as the plagues of Great Influenza and smallpox and body snatchers, while walking through and exploring the North End of Boston. What better way to break that BC bubble than learning about disease, destruction, and death?
Over 21 Events:
At Loretta’s Last Call, you can go to a Pumpkin Carvin’ Party on October 22 from 6:30-9 p.m. For $15, you get a pumpkin, a pumpkin carving kit, a pumpkin beer, and toasted pumpkin seeds and snacks. There are prizes for the best pumpkin, giveaways, and live music at 7 p.m.
You can also go to AERONAUT’s Oktoberfest Allston 2 on October 20 from 3-11 p.m. There will be live music and, with the more expensive ($25) ticket, you get a 1L stein and first beer fill. With the $10 ticket, you are still able to get regular pours of beer.
Besides these events, Boston is a city that is full of various breweries and distilleries, so get out there and try some seasonal drinks, like a pumpkin beer! Most importantly, whatever it is you decide to do, make sure you enjoy this time of year and take some breaks from homework and midterms.
